Not all college bound juniors need to take the SAT. Whether you take the SAT or not, strongly depends on what college you plan on attending. A simple visit to the college website or a call to the college's admissions office, would help answer that question for you. The PSAT is the Pre-SAT test. Students who are interested in taking the PSAT are often interested in the National Merit Scholarship opportunities offered through taking the test. PSAT TESTING AND PSAT WORKSHOP Hempstead will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT in October. The cost of the test is $15.00. All college-bound juniors (and academically strong sophomores who would like to take the test before their junior year) are encouraged to take this test. The PSAT is the qualifying test for students in the nationwide National Merit Scholarship Competition. The College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation distribute to each test taker a student bulletin containing important information including tips for preparing, NMSC scholarship programs and eligibility requirements, and a practice test. To register and pay for this exam, please stop in the Business Office. For additional information and a practice test, students may also go to the website www.collegeboard.com.
ACT OR SAT?? Juniors planning to attend a post-secondary institution should check to see whether that institution prefers the ACT or SAT. Applications for both the ACT and SAT are available in the Guidance Office. The school code is 161-333 when filling out the application. With regard to the SAT test, please be aware that this is a national test date and only the * date above is in Dubuque. Please refer to the student registration guide or check with the Guidance Department regarding other testing locations.
IOWA ASSESSMENTS The Iowa Assessments (formerly the Iowa Tests of Educational Development) will be administered to all freshmen, sophomores and juniors in spring. As vital partners, you as parents/guardians can support the importance of this standardized testing by communicating high expectations and responsible attendance with your students.
